Sea Scout Crew Spirit

“A Crew which is socially well-adjusted, which has a good time doing things, is a Crew that has a large slice of this essential thing called Crew Spirit”

Carl D. Lane, Handbook for Crew Leaders, page 76.

Sea Scouts has a social element and is supposed to be fun. Social time should not be mere hilarious shambles or rudderless chaos, but should have light elements.

Here are just a few program ideas:

Plan instruction through games/competition.

Invite guests to make presentations/speak with the crew.

Relaxed social gathering at the home of one of your ship’s company.

Set up a function with another Ship, such as a barbeque or dance.

Have a special seasonal event, such as a Ship Holiday Party, Halloween Dance, or New Year’s Eve Celebration.

Have a formal Ship dinner such as a Navy “Dinning-In,” or invite guests for a “Dinning-Out.”
